HOPE worldwide Fiji sustained lives and livelihoods over the past year. Many church members and their families have benefited from the generous donations of of the South Pacific and Australia Churches of Christ. In addition the wider communities benefitted through Church volunteers and the partnership with generous companies like Rosies. Families in Nadi have been supported by providing employment opportunities through the Higgins Fiji/Rosie roadworks program. This was a very timely intervention and has sustained over 20 families through 2020 and currently in 2021. Rosies also organized a number of life skills workshops in 2020 that have helped a number of individuals in starting their own businesses. A great help has been HOPE worldwide Fiji's food Aid. Partnership with Supermarkets and the provision of food vouchers in 2020 and 2021 has been making a real difference in sustaining lives of many Fijians. Here are some of the numbers impacted...

When the SPA Mission Corp participants came they served for four mornings at the settlement cleaning and painting the kindergarten classroom. A group also spent some time with the children as well as sewing curtains and cushions.
On the final day of the project the children and teachers along with their families invited the participants to march from the top of the settlement down to the kindergarten where they shared a Lovo lunch in appreciation for the work that the volunteers had done for them. The kindergarten project in Kalekana has opened doors for us as a fellowship and for HOPE worldwide to have even more of an impact in the community. The manager of the kindergarten and his wife attended church last Sunday and their children loved our kids kingdom program. They have expressed interest in doing the parenting classes that we have been doing as a church in Suva. Our next step would be to host the parenting classes in the settlement (in the kindergarten classroom), as well as literacy classes. In a settlement that is below the poverty line, with a reputation for crime and drugs, the impact that HOPE worldwide can have by running programs for the children and parents can be huge. If we can change the families, giving them hope through God's word, we can change the community. As well as the serving project the SPA Mission Corp participants also spent time reaching out and sharing God's word in both Nadi and Suva. The participants along with our local disciples ended up with a list of nearly 130 contacts of people in Nadi, Lautoka and Suva who ether expressed interest in studying the Bible or interest in attending a church service. A few people on that list have already started studying the Bible here in Suva. Great relationships were also built between our local disciples and those from overseas. We have to say a big Thank you to HOPE worldwide and to the churches in Australia and New Zealand for your support and generosity. Without the funding from HOPE and the hearts of the volunteers that participated in the Mission Corp this would not have been possible. Maternity packs for new mothers
Members of the Suva City Church have been getting together once a month to volunteer for the charity Viti Amma. Viti Amma was established in 2008 to supply and deliver Maternity Care Packages for new mothers at the Public Hospital in Suva. Many of the mothers giving birth in the Anderson ward are unable to provide the basic essentials required by the hospital when they come in to give birth. The Maternity care packs include, diapers, maternity pads, soap, baby wipes and cotton buds which (with the exception of the cotton buds) are donated by Asaleo care. The packs are then delivered daily to the hospital by Liti (who is a disciple in the Suva Church). She delivers approximately 150 packs per week. We have on average 15 volunteers who spend about 2 hours a month packing. We also have a few volunteers who pack when needed during the month. Parenting course The Fiji church has just completed the Parenting from the tree of Life series written by Gary and Anne Marie Ezzo. The 17 weekly sessions have been beneficial for both parents and married couples, offering very practical teaching on how to raise children God's way. The Suva City Church will be extending the series to members of the community in June 19. Our prayer is that many lives will be impacted as we minister to the families within our communities. SPA Mission corps The Fiji church is excited to be hosting a SPA Mission Corp from June 20th to July 1st . Volunteers from around the SPA region will come to Fiji to serve the community in a very practical way while continuing to spread God's word. |
