Thanks again for the concern shown by the Australian Churches of Christ. We’re creating an account specifically for the floods. To support the relief work you may donate online through GiveNow (to appropriately direct the donation please add 'FLOODS' in comments).
Update from Ian Correa, HOPE worldwide India: Photos:volunteers from the Churches of Christ helping flood victim in remote locations.
We’ve sent two teams with a plan for two more. Our initial plan was to reach a certain point and then hand the supplies over to the army or navy who would then take it to relief camps. However on reaching the site we realised the people in the camps were receiving relief but supplies were not reaching those who were stuck in their homes. In order to meet their needs we’ve been going to individual homes and delivering aid personally to people. The devastation is widespread and it is likely the state will take years to recover from the likely outbreak of disease and damage to property.
Some people may need their mud houses rebuilt, others (especially the elderly) will require help with cleaning and disinfecting their homes, others need medicines or material relief. We are talking to our partners to ensure whatever funds raised are put to optimal use through an approach that is multi pronged. In each initiative we plan to focus on a manageable size of individuals or families.
