A mixed team of volunteers arrived in Port Moresby in early August: Drs, nurses, youth workers, admin managers etc- with a goal to develop primary health care in PNG through training, providing essential medical supplies and supporting the operations of HOPE worldwide PNG. Essential medical supplies were delivered to 3 clinics in the National Central District, as well as training the clinic staff and attending patients. Medical supplies were funded by St Vincents - South Pacific Health Fund. Training included antenatal care, child development and preventative health: cervical screening. This last one of of specific importance due to the high prevalence of Cervical Cancer and lack of a national screening program. The 9 Mile clinic managed by HOPE worldwide PNG is one of the busiest clinics in the district, seeing 200-300 patients every day. The clinic provides life saving medications such as for treating TB and HIV - of which cases are rising due to an epidemic
