SUPPORT FOR UKRAINE...
Ukraine Update, 29-04-22
The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has left 1000s dead and injured as well as displacing more than 10 million people from their homes. More than 4.5 million people have fled Ukraine to neighbouring countries – mainly women and children as the men stay to fight.
HOPE worldwide, partnering with other charities, the UN and the European Churches of Christ has been very active in meeting local needs since the onset of the conflict in February 2022.
As I think about the generosity and compassion shown by the hundreds of HOPE volunteers across Europe, I am reminded of the Bible verse in Deuteronomy chapter 10, verses 18-19: He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. 19 And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt.
Below is a summary of the activity.

Below is a summary of the activity.
- In March over $20 million USD worth of medical supplies were delivered to hospitals in the Ukraine. These supplies were donated to HOPE worldwide by Heart to Heart in the USA, flown to Europe by FedEx and delivered by truck into Ukraine after acquiring all the necessary clearances (not an easy task). These essential lifesaving surgical trauma supplies arrived at a time of immense need. The ministry of health in Ukraine were extremely grateful, and at the time of delivery the donation made up 11% of the country’s medical supplies.
- Food and water supplies for the Community and members of the Churches of Christ in Ukraine. 10% of the support has been supporting members of the Churches of Christ who predominantly engage as volunteers. 90% is benefitting the wider community across Ukraine.
- Over 2,000 Water filters have been distributed and are being used to keep water pure from contamination.
- Two Cafes have been set up in Ukraine for meal preparation. One in Kyiv, the other in Lviv. Volunteers manage the cafes and provide meals to the community.
- Two vans have been purchased which are being used to distribute food from the cafes. Initially male volunteer drivers were being stopped and check points and coerced into enlisting to the army. The required permits were obtained and now volunteer drivers are free to deliver food without obstruction.
- Food delivery- for the last few weeks 1000 meals a day are being prepared, served and delivered to vulnerable people by volunteers from the Ukraine Churches of Christ. This includes the hot spot areas where active conflict is ongoing.
- Psychosocial support is being provided to families- specifically children. Numbers of people supported is not yet known.
- Over 1000 refugees have been housed across 31 cities in Europe: HOPE worldwide UK is coordinating the hosting of evacuated Ukrainian families.
- A refugee Centre has been established in Moldova and continues to be a shelter for 100s of refugees, especially from the City of Odesa. Since the start of the conflict accommodation has been provided for a total of 3,469 nights and 10,407 hot meals provided
