FOOD AID FOR PNG DROUGHT- SEPT 2015
Donations can be made to the following Account:
HOPE worldwide (Australia) Ltd Overseas Aid Fund
   BSB : 012 290, Account number : 4794 10473.
Please reference Highlands Drought in transaction text.

A drought is affecting communities in the Highlands of PNG and as a result crops have failed and many communities are short of food and facing starvation. The government of PNG is responding with food aid, but the response has not reached many. Gumine in Simbu province is one of the areas affected. It is reported that so far 5 people in the province have died due to starvation. HOPE worldwide PNG manages a clinic in Gumine with the support of the PNG Gumine Church of Christ and PNG Government. Jon Jon who leads the Gumine Church of Christ has reported that people are weak and need food support now.

Our immediate response is to assist church members with their families and the wider community in at least two locations in the Highlands: Gumine and Calvary.

Food Aid: rice, flour, water/filters

It is estimated that a family needs at least $100 of food aid. An initial $4000 will meet the needs of church members and funds above this will assist the wider community.

The response will be coordinated between: HOPE worldwide PNG, the Gumine Church of Christ, the Gumine Community and Provincial govt.

Thank you for any support you are able to give. Please be praying for the drought to come to an end soon. If it continues, more aid will be needed in the coming months. The planned water tank project in October will provide a longer term solution, but for immediate needs food aid is required.
